How to get married in Spain

Your civil status, nationality, and place of residence all influence the legal criteria for registering your marriage in Spain. However, both spouses must be at least 18 years old in order to marry in Spain.

Furthermore, one of the partners must be a Spanish citizen or have lived in the nation for at least two years and be able to show a document of residence (Certificado de Empadronamiento or "Padrón").

However, if you are not a Spanish citizen or have not lived in the nation then you can still have your marriage celebration in Spain but you can do the legal part in your home country.

The couple must also show documentation of their legal right to marry. A certificate of no impediment is what this is referred to as (Certificado de No Impedimento). If you are not Spanish, you may need to get this through the Embassy or Consulate of your native country. For more information on the legal requirements and what documentation you need, you can check here.

The Weather in Spain for your Wedding

Because Spain has such a diverse environment and is primarily made up of mountainous regions, it offers a wide range of climates. The country is divided into three climate zones. A sunny Mediterranean climate prevails on the islands and coastal areas of the south and east.

The climate in the centre inland is continental, while the north and north-west have a maritime climate.

Most people think of Spain as a nation that is constantly bright and warm, but this is not always the case. The weather is indeed sunny, warm, and even scorching throughout the summer.

During the winter, however, this does not apply everywhere. The winter months in many places of Spain are bitterly cold, with snowfall possible.

Spain is a favourite winter sun destination, which is unsurprising given the pleasant climate along the coast. During the winter, Costa Blanca is particularly popular. The Canaries are also a great place in the winter for some sun.

Temperatures on the coast are around 18 degrees Celsius (64 degrees Fahrenheit) in the winter and around 23 degrees Celsius (74 degrees Fahrenheit) on the Canary Islands. Lanzarote is still very sunny in December, with an average of 197 monthly sun hours.

In general spring (April-June) and early autumn (September-October) is the best time to get married in Spain if you want pleasant temperatures and not too much rain. July and August can be very warm and crowded because of the high season.
